Introduction

The 2027 Asian Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences (ACHSS-2027) provides an international platform for scholars, researchers, educators, practitioners, policymakers, and postgraduate students to explore the evolving landscape of humanities and social sciences in Asia and beyond. Under the theme “Humanities and Social Sciences in the Age of AI: Culture, Ethics, Society, and Sustainable Futures in Asia,” the conference brings together diverse perspectives on how technological transformation, particularly the rapid development of artificial intelligence, is reshaping human experiences, social structures, cultural practices, institutions, and the future of societies.

The emergence of AI and other transformative technologies has created new opportunities for research, education, communication, cultural preservation, economic development, governance, and social innovation. At the same time, these developments raise important questions concerning ethics, human values, identity, inequality, privacy, inclusion, cultural diversity, misinformation, employment, and the responsible use of technology. Addressing these challenges requires perspectives that extend beyond technological capabilities and consider the historical, cultural, philosophical, social, economic, political, and ethical dimensions of technological change.

ACHSS-2027 therefore encourages interdisciplinary and cross-cultural scholarship that connects humanities and social sciences with contemporary technological and societal developments. Particular attention is given to Asian contexts, while recognizing the global interconnectedness of contemporary challenges. The conference welcomes research that examines both established and emerging issues across disciplines, including culture and heritage, philosophy, history, languages and literature, education, communication, sociology, anthropology, economics, management, politics, law, development studies, ethics, digital society, artificial intelligence, sustainability, and related fields.

Through keynote presentations, research papers, special sessions, doctoral discussions, workshops, and academic networking, ACHSS-2027 seeks to facilitate meaningful dialogue among different disciplines, institutions, generations, and cultural perspectives. The conference aims to create opportunities for researchers to exchange knowledge, develop collaborative research, discuss emerging challenges, and identify innovative approaches to building more inclusive, ethical, resilient, and sustainable societies.

Ultimately, ACHSS-2027 seeks to strengthen the role of humanities and social sciences in understanding and shaping a rapidly changing world. By bringing together scholarship, cultural perspectives, technological developments, and societal concerns, the conference aspires to contribute to a deeper understanding of humanity, society, culture, and sustainable futures in the age of AI.
